A Closer Look at the Enlist™ Weed Control System

Your customers now can take control of weeds like never before. With tolerance to a new 2,4-D and glyphosate, the Enlist Weed Control System advances herbicide and trait technology by building on the Roundup Ready® system.

Enlist traits give corn and soybeans tolerance to Enlist Duo herbicide — an advanced herbicide that combines glyphosate with a new 2,4-D for unrivaled weed control designed to land and stay on target. In addition, Enlist soybeans offer tolerance to glufosinate and Enlist corn offers tolerance to FOP herbicides to provide more herbicide options for greater flexibility in weed control.

The system also includes Enlist Ahead, a benefits-based management resource to help growers and applicators get the best results from the Enlist system — today and in the future. It is designed to aid on-target application and help prevent resistance in fields.

With an unmatched combination of crop safety and effective weed control, Enlist will help your customers maximize yield on their farms.

New herbicide formulation provides desirable performance characteristics

No combination of glyphosate or 2,4-D can compare with Enlist Duo herbicide with Colex-D Technology when it comes to weed control and on-target application.

Colex-D Technology provides key benefits, including ultra-low volatility, minimized potential for physical drift, low odor and improved handling characteristics.

Compared to traditional 2,4-D, up to 90 percent drift reduction; 96 percent reduction in volatility

The drift reduction from Colex-D Technology combines with low-drift nozzles to cut drift by as much as 90 percent compared with traditional 2,4-D.

“One of the first things my applicator mentioned was that he didn’t see any drift,” says Craig Christensen, an Iowa grower. “There was no drift. No other injuries or symptoms that I saw. Just good coverage where we wanted it to go.”

In addition, near-zero volatility — up to 96 percent less than traditional 2,4-D — helps keep Enlist Duo in place to improve control and safety of nearby crops.

Low odor and better handling characteristics

The new formulation also features improved tank stability in a premix that’s easier to work with. Low odor also is an important feature — and one that caught the attention of growers participating in regulated trials.

“The most surprising thing to me was the very low odor of Enlist Duo,” says Matt Gilbert, an Indiana grower. “No smell at all like the typical 2,4-D odor. I would say nondetectable odor compared with a 2,4-D ester or amine.”

Ultimately, all of the key attributes of Enlist Duo herbicide with Colex-D Technology provide peace of mind and a great package for your customers.

Enlist™ provides proven control of the toughest resistant weeds

With Enlist Duo herbicide, your customers get the only herbicide that combines the proven performance of glyphosate plus a new 2,4-D — taking weed control to a new level. No combination of glyphosate or 2,4-D can compare with Enlist Duo herbicide with Colex-D Technology when it comes to weed control and on-target application.

The two modes of action in Enlist Duo in a program approach deliver season-long control and help prevent resistance. Your customers can maximize yields by eliminating nutrient-robbing weeds from their fields.

Regulated trials with growers across the country confirm the weed control efficacy and crop safety of the Enlist Weed Control System.

Joe Landrum, an Indiana grower, says he has experienced nearly every variety of resistant and hard-to-control weed on his farm. With the Enlist system used as part of a full program approach, he was able to control Palmer amaranth, giant ragweed and marestail.

“When we applied Enlist Duo to the soybeans, we saw absolutely no crop injury, crop stress of any kind,” Landrum says. “The only thing that showed significant stress was the weeds. I would classify it as a quick knockdown; (it took) the weeds out of competition with the crop extremely fast.”

Your customers will get simplified weed management with Enlist Duo. It provides improved control of resistant and hard-to-control weeds in the same application window they’re used to with Roundup® herbicide.

Combining Enlist™ traits with elite genetics for high-yielding products

Dow AgroSciences is committed to bringing elite hybrids and varieties to the marketplace. Our robust pipeline of technology, including the Enlist Weed Control System, will continue to be held to the highest standards. Enlist will be part of our trait introgression standard platform.

The large pool of germplasm that has been used to develop elite Enlist hybrids and varieties allows us to be very selective, which means we have superior lines, wide adaptation and competitive performance.

With Dow AgroSciences’ broad genetic base providing many options, we look closely for yield and agronomic fit for a given geography. In soybeans, disease resistance is a key factor. We screen for a range of diseases based on geography, such as sudden death syndrome (SDS), phytophthora, white mold and brown stem rot. Varieties are tailored to farmers based on their geography and needs.

As always, yield performance remains our primary focus for all new products. Any time a new trait is introduced, there is concern with potential yield drag. We have many years of yield data with no yield penalty associated with Enlist traits.

In our corn breeding program, we run numerous yield trials with multiple testers and genetic selections across the Corn Belt. The parental inbreds also are evaluated in separate trials to ensure high-quality hybrid production. To maintain quality, we never increase a line in parent seed until we have completed all the quality and yield testing.

Through our years of research with the Enlist trait, we have not slowed down. We are ready to bring the best product to you and your customers.

Resources to help growers succeed

There’s nothing else like it. Enlist Ahead is a one-of-a-kind management resource designed to aid on-target applications and help prevent resistance in fields. It offers management recommendations and resources, training and education, and technology advancements.

As a retailer, in-field education and training is available to you to learn and experience Enlist firsthand. Enlist™ 360 education and training provides you with the information you need to know about the Enlist system — so you can provide the best recommendations to your customers.

Patrick Delaney, an ag retailer from Indiana, attended one of the technology centers for a hands-on experience with the technology.

“It works, and it is an easy program,” Delaney says. “We are combining two proven technologies, and I really see it as a huge benefit to combating these yield-robbing weeds.”

Enlist Ahead also helps growers and applicators identify the latest technologies, such as preferred nozzles, for their herbicide applications.

“Using the right nozzles, pressures, boom height and droplet size, and controlling weeds before they get too big are important so we protect this technology and ensure it’s here for years to come,” says Brett Reiss, a Kansas grower.

Part of the Enlist Ahead management resource is the Enlist Ahead app, a precision agriculture tool for maximizing weed control performance, managing weed resistance and making responsible applications of Enlist Duo herbicide.

Two key features of the app include the Application Planner and the Mode of Action (MOA) Calculator.

  • The Application Planner combines real-time, localized weather data, capabilities to map crop fields and trait technologies, and other important considerations for growers and applicators to review before making a responsible herbicide application.
  • The MOA Calculator allows growers to select the herbicides they plan to apply to their Enlist crop, including a foundation herbicide and a postemergence application of Enlist Duo herbicide. The app will indicate whether the herbicides entered are in different herbicide groups. Based on the number of modes of action in the products selected, the app also will indicate whether the weed control program entered is good, moderate or poor with regard to resistance management.

Initially, the Enlist Ahead app will be available for download on iOS tablets. It will later be available for Android tablets.

Local in-field experts also are available for consultation about weed management, application technology and crop research.

Enlist Ahead helps you and your customers get the best results from the Enlist Weed Control System — today and in the future.
