Growers are anticipating new postemergence herbicide options for troublesome weeds. It may seem difficult to understand which technologies provide which benefits. The Enlist weed control system is designed to offer excellent weed control along with other advantages.

The Enlist system allows growers to use Enlist Duo® herbicide featuring Colex-D® technology in corn and soybeans. This technology is the real difference-maker for this landmark formulation. Colex-D technology enables growers to control weeds with less concern about drift and volatility than other potential solutions.

Enlist Duo is a combination of new 2,4-D choline and glyphosate, providing two valuable modes of action and four key benefits:

  • Minimized potential for physical drift: Compared with a tank mix of traditional 2,4-D and glyphosate, Enlist Duo herbicide with Colex-D technology reduces physical drift by up to 90 percent when applied with a low-drift nozzle.
  • Near-zero volatility: With new 2,4-D choline, volatility is reduced by 96 percent compared with 2,4-D ester.
  • Low odor: Users report there’s very little odor, a definite improvement on traditional 2,4-D formulations.
  • Improved handling characteristics: No salting out in the tank and better cold temperature stability for winter storage. And tank cleanout is simple: Growers can rinse with water — 10 percent of the sprayer volume — when moving to glyphosate-tolerant corn. For all other crops, all that’s required is a triple rinse with water.

Enlist Duo works in the real world. For instance, the label features manageable buffer requirements. There is no field separation needed when applying Enlist Duo next to fields with corn or soybeans that do not contain the Enlist trait. The registered label for Enlist Duo® herbicide includes a 30-foot downwind buffer for sensitive areas.

We continue to have a grower-friendly federal label, registered by the Environmental Protection Agency for use on Enlist corn and soybeans, which makes Enlist Duo an easier-to-use herbicide for growers. We’ve seen that when growers experience the weed control, ease of use and lack of off-target movement, they prefer the Enlist system.

Enlist Duo offers valuable flexibility. Growers can choose from 23 approved nozzles for application. In addition, there are nearly 140 tank-mix products available for use with Enlist Duo.

Retailers can provide additional benefits to customers by understanding these advantages and helping growers make decisions that will control tough weeds and preserve peace of mind in these days when herbicide movement is creating increasing concern.
