Retailer who applied Enlist Duo® herbicide happy with results

While growers who’ve used the Enlist weed control system report excellent success, retailers who are visiting and working with these growers are equally impressed. They’re seeing the same performance and benefits as growers in fields treated with Enlist Duo.

In Jamesport, Missouri, Jarett Webb, location manager for GFG Ag Services, LLC, got a first-hand look at the Enlist system this year. He applied Enlist Duo for customer Josh Turner, who grew Enlist E3 soybeans.

“I was very pleased, very satisfied with this technology,” Webb says. “It worked great.”

Enlist Duo is a combination of new 2,4-D choline and glyphosate. It controls tough weeds by offering two modes of action. It fits well into a program approach, allowing growers to use multiple modes of action by applying a burndown treatment, a preemergence residual and a postemergence application.

Webb says waterhemp and ragweed are the primary challenges facing most growers in his area, which is in north-central Missouri.

“Some of these weeds seem to be resistant to darn near everything,” Webb says. “It can cause tremendous yield loss.”

With approximately 60 percent of acres in no-till production, area growers are relying more heavily on herbicides to control weeds. Webb says this puts more pressure on herbicides to perform.

Surprising lack of drift
Webb sprayed two fields for Turner, both of which sit on higher ground.

“We had a little breeze the day I applied the Enlist Duo,” Webb says. “I saw no drift from the back of the sprayer. In fact, in the first field, I got down out of the cab to make sure the herbicide was coming out of the nozzles. I couldn’t believe there was no drift.”

The other thing that impressed Webb was the lack of traditional 2,4-D odor. “It was amazing,” he says. “It didn’t have any odor. Zero.”

Quick effects on weeds
Another surprising aspect Webb discovered was how quickly Enlist Duo® began to work on weeds. He says weeds were beginning to wilt within an hour to an hour and a half.

After seeing the Enlist weed control system in action on Turner’s farm, Webb expects to see more Enlist Duo herbicide in his area.

“I think this technology will take off really quickly,” he says. “Several farmers in the area are talking about it. It provides excellent weed control and drift control. Plus, it’s fast-acting.”
