U.S. farmers are enthusiastic over the opportunity to plant corn hybrids featuring Enlist™ technology next spring. After the recent Chinese approval of grain produced from corn plants containing the trait, Enlist corn will be commercially available in the United States for the 2018 growing season.
The Enlist weed control system helps farmers control tough and herbicide-resistant weeds. The ability to use in-crop applications of Enlist Duo® herbicide gives farmers effective and economical weed control.
“I’m so glad to hear about Enlist corn approval,” says Todd Hanten, a South Dakota dairy farmer who has planted Enlist™ corn under a stewarded program. “I’m going to continue using Enlist. I’m looking forward to using a lot of it.”
Weed control challenges have grown steadily worse since the first glyphosate-resistant weeds were discovered in 2001. To meet farmers’ needs for additional weed control solutions, Dow AgroSciences developed the Enlist weed control system.
“I look forward to being able to use Enlist Duo on my fields,” says Steve Kliewer, a Kansas farmer who has two years of experience with the technology.
The Enlist corn trait is available as both SmartStax® Enlist and PowerCore® Enlist hybrids, offering industry-leading packages of weed control and insect protection. Growers can begin ordering Enlist™ corn from Dow AgroSciences seed companies, including Mycogen Seeds, Brodbeck Seeds, Dairyland Seed, Pfister Seeds, and Prairie Brand Seed, later this summer. Dow AgroSciences also will license the PowerCore Enlist trait technology.
“I think Enlist has an exciting future helping us deal with these weed pressures,” Kliewer says. “I’m just excited to go forward with it.”
